Bowl of peach cobbler served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Southern Peach Cobbler

This is the only peach cobbler that I had as a child growing up in South Carolina, made with peaches from the local peach farm up in Edgefield County. Fresh peaches are best, but frozen peaches are a convenient alternative. This easy recipe only calls for 5 ingredients and is so delicious that your guests will be clamoring for seconds. It's delicious on its own, but add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups fresh or frozen peaches, peeled and sliced (about 6 medium peaches)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1//2 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preaheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Place peaches in 2 quart cassarole dish
  • In a small bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and egg until a crumbly mixture forms
  • Spread the flour/sugar/egg mixture over top of the peaches
  • Pour melted butter over the top
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes until bubbly and brown on top

Notes

  • If you do not have self-rising flour, you can make it by whisking together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1-1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt
  • Fresh peaches are preferred, but frozen peaches can also be used
  • This peach cobbler is extra-delicious served with old-fashioned vanilla ice cream
