Many years ago a neighbor shared this recipe with my husband's family. My mother-in-law kept batches of this appetizer in the freezer at all times. It's a delicious and easy treat to have on hand when unplanned guests stop by. The original recipe called for sliced white bread-- I updated it to use sliced baguette. Ask the bakery to pre-slice the baguette for nice even slices and a great time-saver!
Mix all ingredients except the bread in large mixing bowl
Spread cheese mixture evenly on top of bread slices
Place on lightly greased baking sheet
Bake 10 minutes, or until brown on top
Notes
This recipe is great to prepare ahead and keep in the freezer. Place the unbaked appetizer pieces on a baking sheet and freeze for approximately one hour. Store in an airtight container in the freezer. When you are ready to serve them, bake in a 400-degree oven for 12-14 minutes, or until brown on top. There is no need to thaw them before baking.
Ask the bakery to pre-slice your baguette into thin slices. This saves so much prep time!
For more variety, you can sprinkle the appetizers with paprika or parsley before baking
