Hi, I’m Lisa Funsch, the founder, recipe developer, photographer, and creative voice behind Modern Classic Host.

This website is devoted to delicious food, beautiful details, and an intentional approach to living and gathering. Whether that means cooking for two, hosting a holiday table, or mixing a cocktail at the end of a long day, I believe every day should feel a like a celebration.

Modern Classic Host blends timeless ideas (family recipes and traditions worth keeping) with a fresh, modern perspective that fits real life today.

A Bit About My Journey

I was born and raised in South Carolina, where Southern hospitality is less about perfection and more about warmth, good food, and making people feel at home. After college, I moved to Florida, where I began building a life that would soon take me to some of the country’s most vibrant cities.

Over the years, I lived in Chicago, Boston, New York, and Atlanta. Each city offered a new perspective on design, dining, and the ways people come together. In 2012, I returned to Florida and found myself drawn back to the kitchen and the table. Not just for entertaining, but for everyday living. Cooking, styling, researching, and refining ideas became a creative outlet, and Modern Classic Host was born as a place to share what I love.

Hosting My Way

I’m a wife and mom of three grown children, now firmly in an empty-nest season of life. Most meals today are made for two (with just enough leftovers for lunch the next day). This new rhythm has shaped how I cook and create.

I believe in:

Food that feels special without being complicated
Recipes scaled for real life
Thoughtful details over perfection
Classics updated in fresh, modern ways

My background as a licensed physical therapist, real estate agent, and community volunteer has shaped my ability to adapt, solve problems, and create spaces that work beautifully for the people in them.
