Hi, I’m Lisa Funsch, and I am the founder, home host, recipe tester, and cocktail enthusiast behind Modern Classic Host. I created this space to share simple, stylish ideas for entertaining at home, whether it’s a cozy brunch with friends, a festive holiday dinner, or a signature cocktail that wows your guests.

A Bit About My Journey

Born and raised in South Carolina, I grew up with a deep appreciation for Southern hospitality. Hospitality that centers around good food and warm welcomes. After college, I moved to Florida, where I began building a life that would soon take me to some of the country’s most vibrant cities.

Over the years, I lived in Chicago, Boston, New York, and Atlanta. Each city offered a new lens on design, dining, and the ways people come together. In 2012, I returned to Florida and rediscovered my love of home entertaining. Whether I’m planning a holiday gathering or testing a new dessert recipe, I’m always thinking about how to bring people together in meaningful, memorable ways.

Hosting My Way

As a wife and mom of three grown kids, I’ve hosted everything from birthday bashes to impromptu cocktail parties. My background as a licensed physical therapist, active volunteer, and real estate agent taught me how to adapt to different homes, different needs, and different types of chaos!

I don’t believe in perfection. I believe in thoughtful details, a warm welcome, and food that’s made with love (and maybe a splash of bourbon). On the blog, you’ll find plenty of easy entertaining ideas that feel just as doable on a Tuesday as they do on a Saturday night.
